The ISSF Executive Board, headed by HRH Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki AL-FAISAL AL SAUD, held a meeting with the Organizing Committee for the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games “Konya 2021”, headed by HE. Dr. Mehmet Muharrem KASAPOĞLU the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey and Chair of the Games Organizing Committee.
In the meeting, they discussed all matters related to the organization of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games “Konya 2021” and the current world health situation of novel coronaviruses (COVID-19) and the difficulties that some member countries may face regarding the slow vaccinations and air travel procedures, which may affect the participation of the member countries and may not to achieve the main goal for which the Islamic Solidarity Games were organized.
Therefore, with the keen interest of both the ISSF and the Organizing Committee to have all member NOCs participating in the Games, they decided the following:
To postpone the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games “Konya 2021” to the year of 2022 as the world health situation will be improved and stabilized, all the countries will be able to take the necessary vaccinations, and the Games will be organized in an adequate and healthy environment that ensures the safety of all participating athletes. The new date of the Games is 09-18 August 2022.
