The 5th ISSF International Solidarity Weightlifting Championship kicks off
The 5th ISSF International Solidarity Weightlifting Championship, which is an IWF qualification event for the Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo in 2020, was kicked off on Sunday, Dec. 9th, 2018 at the “Cairo International Stadium” in Egypt.
The opening ceremony of the Championship was attended by His Excellency Mr. Ashraf Sobhy the Minister of Youth and Sport of Egypt, Mr. Mohammed Jalood the Secretary General of the International Weightlifting Federation, General Ahmed Seyed FOULY the Vice President of ISSF, Mr. Mohammed Saleh AL- GARNAS the Secretary General of ISSF, Mr. Abdulaziz Bin Saad AL-DALLAK the treasurer of ISSF and Mr. Mahmoud Kamal Mahgoub the President of Egyptian Weightlifting Federation.
The Secretary General of ISSF Mr. Mohammed Saleh AL- GARNAS delivered the speech of ISSF at the ceremony and conveyed the greetings & best wishes of good luck of HE Turky bin Abdulmohsen Al-ALSHEIKH the Board Chairman President of ISSF, to all participating countries and conveyed as well his wishes of success to the championship.
Mr. AL- GARNAS thanked the Government & people of Egypt for hosting the Championship, being the first of its kind to be organized in Egypt under the umbrella of ISSF.
Mr. AL- GARNAS thanked, also the International Weightlifting Federation for adopting this Championship to be a qualifying event for the Olympic Games of Tokyo in 2020 & expressed his thanks to all the countries participating the Championship.
It is worthy, however, to mention that the following 23 countries have participated in the Championship:
Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, UAE, Oman, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Uganda, Cameroon, Madagascar, Turkey, Kosovo, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Russia, Thailand and Egypt.
